John 17:19

Jesus is praying a final prayer for His disciples, and for us. In this prayer, He says, “I consecrated myself for their sakes that they may be made holy by the truth.” (J.B. Phillips translation).
Jesus chose a a particular life, a consecrated (or set apart) life for the sake of His disciples and us. Much was made over The DaVinci Code and its claim that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene. Of course, there is not one shred of reliable historical evidence that it is true. But understand this: If it was, so what? It is not a sin to get married, or to have children. We know that Jesus didn’t, but He could have, if He had chosen it.
He chose the life He lived, for our sake, not for His own. He chose to live the way He did to help us, not Himself. I think all of us would choose a quiet life as a carpenter, with a wife and kids over 3 1/2 years of travel, turmoil, opposition, and eventually crucifixion. So, as a Christian, a Christ follower, I ask you this: Who are you consecrated for? Who are you living different for? Our lives affect other people. Our choices make huge differences in their destiny. Who are you living a consecrated life for?
